Argentina Win Olympic Soccer Gold

Argentina preserved their Olympic men’s football title as they swept over the heat to thump Nigeria 1-0 in the Bird’s Nest stadium.
Benfica frontman Angel Di Maria’s tidy chip after 58 minutes was sufficient to give Argentina victory.
Nigeria had their fair portion of chances, but were incapable to beat goalkeeper Sergio Romero.

Liudmyla Blonska of Ukraine Stripped of Silver Medal

Ukrainian heptathlete Liudmyla Blonska has had her Olympic silver removed and faces a life ban from the athletics after an unsuccessful a drugs test.
Blonska had been provisionally suspended after proving positive for an anabolic steroid.
The silver will now go to Hyleas Fountain of the U.S.A., Whilst Russia’s Tatiana Chernova will get the bronze.

Ethiopia’s Tirunesh Dibaba earned an Olympic double after gaining the 5,000m on Friday in the Bird’s Nest.
A week later on from winning the 10,000m, Dibaba sprinted to triumph in front of Turkey’s Elvan Abeylegesse and defending champion Meseret Defar.

Usain Bolt seized a 3rd gold medal and a 3rd world record after Jamaica laid claim to the men’s 4×100m relay gold.
The foursome crushed the old world record of 37.40 secs set by the U.S.A. at the 1992 Olympics by a big margin to set a new record of 37.10.

Larisa Ilchenko put in a late charge to overtake Great Britains Keri-Anne Payne and Cassie Patten for triumph in a spectacular 10km marathon swim in Beijing.
The Russian, undefeated since 2004, took the lead in the final 100m after Patten and Payne had led for most of the race.
